DONATION APPEAL FOR NEW GURDWARA SAHIB SHAH ALAM (GSSA) BUILDING IN SELANGOR MALAYSIA

The Population of Sikhs (Sangat) of Shah Alam comprising Bandar Shah Alam, Taman Sri Muda, Bukit Rimau, Kota Kemuning, Bukit Kemuning, Bukit Jelutong, Denai Alam, Sri Setia, Bukit Subang and its surrounding areas does not have a Gurdwara Sahib of it’s own. The total Sangat is approximately 400 families and is growing by the year in view of the extensive development taking place on the outskirts of Klang and The Guthrie Corridor stretching from Bukit Jelutong towards Rawang and around Subang Airport and Kelana Jaya.

Since 1993, the Sangat has been holding all it’s prayers out of an old corner low-cost house in Section 25 Sri Muda (this is the 3rd movement from the previous 2 rented premises) under severe constraints. It is even too small to conduct weddings or large functions and a small portion of a poorly maintained soccer field in front of the Gurdwara serves as Langgar Hall. The Gurdwara Sahib is located in a residential area and has been a source of much complaints from the neighbourhood from parking woes, noise and the Langgar cooking that takes place within the confined space available which also doubles up as the Prayer Hall.

At long last after almost 30 years of persistent pleas by the Sikhs, Management and Building Committees, the Selangor State Government in 2008 finally relented and allocated a 10,000 sq/ft piece of land for the new Gurdwara Sahib at Lot 10 18/49 Section 18 Shah Alam, which is within a dedicated place allocated for prayers for non-muslims.

As of the date of this appeal, Shah Alam is the ONLY STATE CAPITAL of MALAYSIA that does not have a Gurdwara Sahib of its own (with the exception of Terengganu which does not have any Gurdwara in the whole State).

The current Building Committee has been steadfastly working on this building of the Gurdwara from scratch for last 8 years. We have been confronted with many a restriction from the authorities but with Waheguru’s kirpa and the perseverance of the sangat we have successfully moved forward.

Despite the challenges the committee has been patiently able to secure approval for a 3 storey building on appeal (previously we were only give approval for a 2 storey building which the committee were unanimous that it was inadequate for the growing sangat.

Upon receiving approval from relevant authorities we have awarded the project to build new 3 storey Gurdwara Sahib and it commenced on October 2013. Total cost expected is RM4.56 million (Including RM500,000 as contingency) for both the building, finishing and post construction expenses. Currently we have approximately RM3.3 Million in the coffers and by God’sBlessings, completion is expected by July 2015 (Funds permitting).

We would like to appeal to all of you for you kind generosity to earnestly contribute to the Building Fund to enable us to expeditiously carry out the project and complete it on schedule. We would also like to meet you in person to further discuss on our appeal.

All payments by Cheque/Bank Draft can be made to GSSA BUILDING FUND (Account No : 5121 0190 0000 – Maybank Berhad).

Attached are some of the photos of the progress and a Pledge Form is attached for your action. We look forward to your kind and gracious generosity to enable the Shah Alam Sikhs to move into the new Gurdwara Sahib as soon as possible.

YOUR SEWA TOWARDS THIS GURUDWARA (GOD’S ABODE) IS HIGHLY ANTICIPATED AND WILL BE APPRECIATED AND BE A GREAT DREAM COME TRUE AFTER 30 YEARS FOR THE HUMBLE SHAH ALAM SANGAT.
